Day 2

Around 1:20pm while I was sleeping Doc 1 came and woke me up from on the chairs in the waiting room.  Took about 5.5 hours and Dayton was out in the hall on a call and I ran out to get him.  Doc explained how well everything went and that they didn't have to go through her stomach! He said "I'm usually pretty pessimistic and like to give worst case scenario, if you couldn't tell already.  But I'm very happy how everything turned out." We were so excited!  He said she'll do more dilations under anesthesia in a couple weeks and then we'll start dilations again in a while.  She has a foley in to make sure she's not retaining pee.

We waited probably 5 minutes to get called back into recovery to see her.  I couldn't wait!! A nurse was holding her and said "Mom, I think she's hungry!"  She was really horse and was trying to cry.  It only made it worse when she was crying and they said it was because of her breathing tube they took out that scratched her throat.  I tried to nurse her but she wasn't ready and only took her passie.  They gave her some meds to calm her pain and she almost immediately fell asleep.  I was desperate to nurse so Dayton ran to get my pump.  I pumped and traded Dayton Winnie while she slept.  She has that hospital smell.  I can't describe it but I remember it from the first time we came.  I thought it was the tape adhesive from the breathing tube or something but I'm not sure.  Can't wait to get her into a bath as soon as I can! My mom brought us some food and hung out taking pictures.  We waited for an hour while they made sure she was stable.  Doc came in just to check on her again and said he'd see us tomorrow.  A room opened up on the Oncology floor so our nurse got everything ready!  He's super nice and we've had him in recovery the past couple times. We got wheeled up to our room and unloaded. Winnie laid on my chest for a while, while I tried to nurse.  After 10 minutes or so a Pediatrician came in to go over everything and introduced our nurse.

Over the past couple hours it was nurses in and out checking her folley and changing out her meds.  Charlcie, Chance, and Haleigh stopped by which we loved!  Then Rondalee came too.

Towards the end of the night she was really crabby.  She would just cuddle with her blanket and lean against us. She still had a really raspy cry which would just break your heart. But we managed to get to bed around 10:30pm falling asleep to Finding Nemo and a fresh dose of morphine.  She was out pretty fast after that and then I can't remember what time it happened but the nurses woke us up to change her diaper.  Another time in the middle of the night Wins woke up screaming.  I think it was her reaction to coming off the medication so she was thrashing around and losing it.  They gave her another dose of medicine to calm her and she slept pretty well until 6am.

 Wednesday March 5th, 2014
In the morning we all showered and Doc came in to check on her.  They'll take her foley out tomorrow morning and if she can pee on her own then we'll be good to go home! Hallelujah.  If not they'll need to put her under again for a little so they can place it correctly.  Just in case that happens we have to put her on a liquid diet until early in the morning. Wins and I got an hour nap in while Dayton went to Target to get her some baby food.  We've been starting to lay her in her crib to play and roam so she doesn't fall off the bed! She also has discovered all her tubes.  So we're constantly telling her not to pull on them and chew her IV's. haha Her swelling has gone down everywhere and she's looking like her normal self. She gets really antsy being confined to her crib or in our bed and they have these cute little wagons so we took her on a ride around the hospital. She loved it!

I think the hardest part now is just letting her play while being hooked up.  She can't crawl very well because of all the cords. If all goes well, we go home tomorrow though! Dayton leaves back to Washington tomorrow too and I can't imagine spending another night in the hospital with out him, so we're crossing our fingers we leave!!!
